ACCU-PULSE Pulsation Dampeners
Pulsation Dampeners Sizing Guide

The following formula sizes Pulsation Dampeners for use on diaphragm, piston and plunger type metering pumps.

Required Sizing Information:

V = volume per pump stroke in cubic inches
K = type of pump (K factor)
P = mean operating pressure
D = allowable pressure fluctuation as a percentage ( +/- from mean)
n = exponent for type of gas used (Nitrogen = 0.714; Air = 1.0)

V - Volume per stroke calculations:

1)

Gallons per minute / strokes per minute = gallons per stroke
Gallons per stroke X 231 cubic inches per gallon = cubic inch per stroke or
2)
.7854 X (inch bore diameter)2 X inch stroke length = cubic inch per stroke

K - Type of pump:

Single Acting
Double Acting

Simplex

.60
.25

Duplex

.15

Triplex

.13
.06

Quadruplex

.06

P - Operating Pressure (Mean):
Allowable pressure fluctuations:
Minimum pressure Pmin = P - (P X D)
Maximum pressure Pmax = P + (P X D)

Formula

V x K ( P / Pmin )
1 - (P / Pmax)
= Cubic inch capacity required
